Notice on Adjusting "RoboMaster University AI Challenge" Event Settings

2022-11-22

The RoboMaster University AI Challenge (RMUA) has been co-organized by the RoboMaster Organizing Committee (RMOC) and the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) for six consecutive years since 2017. At the beginning, the competition form was that automatic robots handled and built blocks. After technology accumulation, the competition form becomes that automatic robots from both sides shoot against each other in the battlefield. Since the event was held for the first time, it has been committed to developing the cutting-edge technologies of AI. It is expected that automation technologies will be gradually introduced into RoboMaster University Championship (RMUC) under the guidance of the event.

Due to the following factors, the RMOC will start to adjust the event settings in 2023 and subsequent seasons:

1.At present, the development of ground AI automation technology has become mature. In addition to the continuous exploration and accumulation in the original RMUA competitions over the past six years, the RMOC plans to introduce automated ground robots into RMUC and RoboMaster University League (RMUL) in succession. The purpose is to motivate the participating teams to conduct special research on human-machine interaction and further explore more academically hot and top AI technologies. On this background, the core technology points investigated in the original form of "automatic robots from both sides shoot against each other in the battlefield" are highly repetitive with other events.

2.In recent years, due to the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are practical difficulties in holding competitions and participating in competitions on the spot. In addition, it is also difficult for the RMOC to successfully complete the international cooperation with the ICRA.

Based on the above information, the RMOC has investigated and comprehensively considered the feedback of supervisors and participating team members, and determined the following latest arrangement of RMUA. The RMOC sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused to the participating teams due to the event adjustment.

1.The RMOC will adjust the form of the original RMUA event. Registration will not be opened for the 2023 season, and subsequent arrangements shall be subject to the latest event settings and notices. The RMOC will continue to explore more research directions of AI technology in the future, develop new tracks, and enrich RMUA events. At present, the RMOC is focusing on promoting the "UAV Intellisense Technology Competition". Please stay tuned.

2.The RMOC will guide the previous RMUA participating teams to participate in other RoboMaster events depending on the actual situation.

3.Since prior participation in RMUA required the use of the official robot platform "RoboMaster AI Robot 2020 Standard Version", the RMOC will recycle the platform for a discount for teams having purchased this robot platform for the 2022 season and later. If some robot platforms cannot be recycled due to limited conditions, the RMOC will provide additional discount purchase and free exchange quota for spare parts and materials to support these participating teams to continue to participate in other events or research related to robotics, so as to minimize the impact of the event adjustment and reduce the cost loss of the participating teams. For the detailed process, please pay attention to the latest notice of the RMOC.

The RMOC will open the feedback window from now on to November 22, aiming to collect the affected situation and demands of the participating teams and minimize their losses. If you have any questions about the above information, please contact the RMOC by email (robomaster@dji.com) or WeChat (RoboMaster University event: rmsaiwu).

The RMOC sincerely thanks the participating universities for their support for RoboMaster competitions. The RMOC will continue to promote the ecological construction of the competition platform, launch events that are more in line with the cutting-edge technology of AI, improve the competition system in line with the development of this field, and lead more young engineers to become promoters of human social progress. The RMOC looks forward to meeting you in the competition in the future!
